Newspapers Association (CCNA) journalists that have taken part in Foreign
Affairs Canada (FAC) media briefings are available for download.
Community newspaper journalists from across Canada
apply to participate in media briefings as part of FAC's media
outreach program. The program offers Canada's community journalists unparalleled
access to those 'in the know.' The briefings are specifically aimed at community
newspapers. The objective of the briefings is to inform and engage community
newspaper journalists on the role of FAC in Canada's foreign policy and its
impact at the local community level.
The groups meet with senior people from FAC, other
government departments, representatives from the corporate sector, and Canadian
and foreign diplomats in Canada and the United States. Topics for past briefings
include:
-
Enhanced Representation Initiative: Canada-Alaska Relations - An examination
of how Canada's Enhanced Representation Initiative (ERI) is working in a crucial
region like Alaska, as well as other issues of relevance to both Alaska and
Canada (March 2005)
-
Opening of the National Museum of the American Indian -
Features Canada's participation in this historic event (September 2004)
-

North American Free Trade Agreement (October 2003)
-
Canada: Multilateral Advocate - A look at the current multilateral agenda of Canada's foreign policy and
to explain why multilateralism is integrated in Canadian culture (July 2003)
-

Canada to learn about what the federal government is doing at the community
and federal level to ensure security for Canadians in the wake of the September
11, 2001, terrorist attacks (December 2001)
As presentations are made, the participants in
the briefings are encouraged to question the speakers. The briefings are
a great learning experience for those participating and provide journalists
with valuable contacts and information that they can use in the future.
The
participants function as pool journalists, filing their stories and photos
to CCNA upon publication. They are then made available to all CCNA members
for republication on a copyright-free basis.
